Liberal Democrats are demanding that Labour bosses at Redcar & Cleveland Council give residents a cut in Council Tax next year.
Lib Dem Deputy Leader and prospective MP, Councillor Josh Mason, tabled a question at last week’s meeting of the Council asking for the cut.
Councillor Josh Mason said:
“The Council has underspent this year, and has millions tucked away in reserves.
“Cutting Council Tax will also mean that our area will benefit from an extra Government grant.
“Ed Miliband talks about the cost of living crisis, Labour has increased Council Tax for Redcar & Cleveland people every year since 2011, including the highest rise in the country in 2012. This is deeply unfair when many other councils have been able to freeze the tax, thanks to generous grants from the Government.
“Local people deserve a break.”
