Liberal Democrats are demanding to know what action the Labour Council is taking to solve the problem of frequent closures of the level crossing on West Dyke Road.
The level crossing regularly has to be closed for considerable periods of time during adverse weather.
Councillor Mary Ovens, quizzed the Labour Cabinet Member responsible at Thursday’s Council meeting, and said:
“When the crossing closes it practically brings Redcar to a standstill.
“This causes extra costs to local businesses and massive inconvenience to residents.
“The Council needs to be taking the issue up with Network Rail and making it a top priority.
“Redcar needs a solution to this problem, and we need it fast.”
