Labour vote against jobs

by Group Office on 21 December, 2014

Liberal Democrats find it hard to believe that Labour bosses at Redcar & Cleveland Council have refused to welcome the new jobs and the fall in unemployment in the area.

On Thursday Labour voted against a Lib Dem amendment which welcomed the fall in unemployment in the area in recent years and looked forward to more initiatives to ensure local prosperity.

Councillor Josh Mason, Lib Dem Deputy Leader and prospective MP, said:

“In Redcar & Cleveland Borough unemployment is down to its lowest level since 2008.

“Youth unemployment in the borough is at its lowest since 2004.

“But Labour councillors prefer negativity and talking our area down.”

“It is vital that we look to our area’s assets and continue to champion local investment.

“We are on track, but there is a long way to go.”

Lib Dem Group Leader Glyn Nightingale added:

“A significant shift is taking place with investment in local businesses for the 21st century. Nearly £60 million has been invested by the Government.

“It is vital for the future of our area that local political leaders are positive, so that we can maintain the momentum of progress.”
