The Liberal Democrats have won 11 seats on Redcar & Cleveland Borough Council, the same as they had before the election.
This means that they are still the main opposition to Labour, who failed to win a majority on the Council after a dramatic recount in Skelton ward.
Lib Dems comfortably held on to West Dyke and Ormesby wards, and also topped the poll in Newcomen and Zetland. In St Germain’s (Marske), Lib Dems comfortably re-took all three seats after two were lost four years ago.
Sadly, hard-working Councillors Eric Howden and Sabrina Thompson were defeated in Dormanstown.
The make-up of the Council is now:
Labour 29
Lib Dem 11
Conservative 10
Independent 8
UKIP 1
It remains to be seen who will run the Council now. For the full results please see http://www.redcar-cleveland.gov.uk/results
