Liberal Democrats on Redcar & Cleveland Council have criticised the Labour bosses for failing to disclose information about works of art owned by the council.
A recent Freedom of Information request from the Taxpayers’ Alliance asked all local authorities to disclose how many works of art they own, how many of them are available for the public to see and what the total estimated value of the artwork is.
The questioning revealed that Hartlepool Council has 3100 pieces of art worth nearly £14 million, but only 400 are on display. But no answers were forthcoming from Redcar & Cleveland Borough.
Lib Dem Group Leader Councillor Josh Mason said:
“Labour is forever claiming to run the council in an open and transparent way, but this proves the opposite.
“This follows on from Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council’s recent refusal to answer a Freedom of Information request relating to councillors not paying their council tax on time.
“What have they got to hide?”
