Redcar gets nothing from pothole fund

by Group Office on 24 January, 2017

Liberal Democrats in Redcar are furious that the town will receive nothing from a Government grant to do up the roads.

Last year the Liberal Democrats uncovered figures showing that Redcar & Cleveland Borough would receive only £121,000 from a £50 million Government pothole repair fund.

Neighbouring North Yorkshire County Council is getting more than 13 times as much.

But to add insult to injury, the Labour-run council is allocating NONE of the money to Redcar town. Instead, all of the £121,000 will be spent on Saltburn, Guisborough, Marske and South Bank.

Councillor Josh Mason, Leader of the Liberal Democrat Group, said:

“First the Tory Government gives us far too little money, then the Labour council decides to spend none of it on Redcar.

“All Redcar residents know of roads in the town which are in dire need of repair.

“The state of the roads is one of the things that matters most to residents, and it’s very unfair that our town is getting none of the extra money.

“Redcar is being short-changed by the Labour and the Tories.”
