Lib Dems Call For More Breastfeeding Provision

by admin on 11 September, 2012

On Thursday a Liberal Democrat Councillor will ask the Labour-run Redcar & Cleveland Council to do more to promote breastfeeding in the area.

New Marske Councillor Victoria Reyer, who recently gave birth to baby Oliver, will question the Cabinet Member for Health & Social Wellbeing at the meeting of the Council.

The Council’s “Our Plan” document contains targets for increasing the percentage of infants in the borough who are breastfed.

Cllr Reyer said:

“I have noticed that there are very few places and provisions within the borough to breast feed! The council wants to encourage breastfeeding. But there is a lack of provision of suitable places. The Council needs to get cafes, libraries etc. to inform us if they offer any places where a mother can breast feed, as they are not advertised.”

“The Council also needs to work alongside midwives and health visitors to produce this information to give to new mothers, so that they can feel confident that they will have somewhere private and comfortable to breast feed whilst out and about.”
