Liberal Democrats in Redcar & Cleveland are celebrating the 65th birthday of the National Health Service today.

Redcar Cllr Mary Ovens, local Health Spokesperson, said:

“We are delighted to see that the NHS is 65 today, and certainly not ready for retirement!

“After 65 years it is in pretty good health, with more funding than ever before in its history.

“We are pleased that, even in these difficult economic times, the Coalition Government has managed to find the money to improve our health services.

“A fine example is at James Cook Hospital, which has plans to increase its number of beds and staff shortly.”
