A Liberal Democrat councillor is demanding 20mph speed limits near schools in Redcar.

After visiting Ayrshire recently Councillor John Hannon noticed that a policy of 20mph on all secondary roads (those without a white line) had been adopted.

John Hannon said:

“I am particularly concerned about roads like Hambleton Avenue in the Kirkleatham ward where children are attending Riverdale School.”

“I would like to see a 20mph speed limit.”

As next week is National Road Safety Week, Cllr John Hannon is also calling for more off-road parking.

Cllr John Hannon and local resident Andy Gill are calling for Coast & Country Housing to work more closely with the Borough Council on the Safer Street Scheme. This is to help reduce the number of cars parking on main roads, especially near bus stops.

Cllr John Hannon added:

“The residents of Rushpool Close are eagerly awaiting some action. This has been going on for two years now. It’s not good enough.”
