Liberal Democrats on Redcar & Cleveland Council are asking why it is necessary for two vehicles to be used for recycling collections.
The Labour-run council currently uses two different vehicles, one for paper and another for glass and cans. Lib Dems think this is wasteful and bad for the environment.
Today the Council’s Scrutiny Board agreed to investigate the matter.
Cllr John Earl, who represents Dormanstown, said:
“Why do we need two vehicles going down each and every street when we could just use one to collect all the recyclables? This is done in many places including County Durham.”
“This would reduce congestion and cut pollution.”
“I’m pleased that the Council has agreed to discuss this. Bearing in mind the tough financial climate I would have thought the Council would welcome an opportunity to cut fuel costs.”

I don’t get the point of using two trucks in collecting recyclable materials. It will just cost a lot because of greater fuel consumption plus it will double the pollution.
