Liberal Democrats on Redcar & Cleveland Council are using Road Safety Week (18-22 Nov) to highlight the amount of roadworks in the Borough which have left road surfaces uneven.
There have been many cases where utility companies have dug up the road and not restored it satisfactorily.
Lib Dem Councillor Mike Carling has highlighted the example of Greenstone Road in Redcar, where a deep excavation was made early this summer in order to install a new sewer. The contractors have not yet restored the road properly.
Cllr Carling said:
“I have asked for a date when the work will be done. With icy weather approaching it is all the more important that it happens soon.
“This is just one example of many in the borough.
“The Council needs to put pressure on the contractors to sort things out.
“In the meantime, I would urge motorists to take extra care, as temporary road surfaces can affect braking distances.”
