Redcar Lib Dems welcome fall in number of young people not in education or employment

by Group Office on 14 October, 2014

Liberal Democrats on Redcar & Cleveland Council are delighted that the borough has seen the largest fall in Tees Valley of the number of young people not in education employment or training (NEETS).

Whilst the proportion of young people aged 16-18 not in Education, Employment or Training remains higher than the national average, it has shown a distinct improvement in the last year. It has fallen in most boroughs, but particularly in Redcar & Cleveland where it fell by more than a quarter from 10.5% to 7.7%.

Lib Dem Deputy Leader and Parliamentary Candidate, Councillor Josh Mason, said:

“This is excellent news for our young people.

“There is still much to do, but this is a big step in the right direction.

“It shows that the Liberal Democrats in Government were right to press for the huge increase in the number of apprenticeships that we have seen.

“This would not have happened if the Tories were in Government alone. It is part of our goal to create a stronger economy and a fairer society and give opportunity to everyone.”
